Sarah Wong

“Hi! I'm Sarah Wong, a Khmer-Cantonese artist and illustrator based in Siem Reap, Cambodia. My work is playful, tender and colourful and is hugely inspired by my upbringing in Cambodia and life here, community, culture, food and nature. I like experimenting with different mediums but my number one love might always be a nice marker.” For more info, please visit her website and Instagram.

Title: 01 / Joy
Description: Drawing serves a lot of purposes but here I think it was an act of hope. I drew it almost like an affirmation to myself, of the energy and belief I wanted to embody and could come closer to even just after drawing it. That life can be joyous and that I am indeed enough as I am :o)

Title: 02 / Golden
Description: Drawn during Covid, the yellow Leuong Reach tree would bloom only in certain seasons. I remember going for my mandated walk and seeing everyone connect and be in awe over the beauty of this bursting yellow tree and it really moved me. Like a golden balm and moment of respite and reminder of hope that the fullness of connection and community can return, and that here was a little slice of it now as a gift!
